The U2 have recorded an unreleased track titled ‘ATOMIC CITY,’ produced by Jacknife Lee and Steve Lillywhite. ‘ATOMIC CITY’ was recorded at Los Angeles’ Sound City and precedes the band’s upcoming series of dates at the Las Vegas Sphere to celebrate their historic 1991 album ‘ACHTUNG BABY.’
‘ATOMIC CITY’ is a 3-and-a-half-minute tribute to the magnetic spirit of 1970s post-punk with a nod to Blondie, whose pioneering work with Giorgio Moroder inspired and influenced the band.
Bono Vox says, ‘It’s a love song for our audience… ‘Where you are is where I’ll be.‘
‘ATOMIC CITY’ was the nickname for Las Vegas in the 1950s when the allure of nuclear was widespread throughout the nation, and the city promoted itself as a hub for atomic tourism due to its proximity to the Nevada Test Site. In addition to the song, the official video directed by Ben Kutchins with creative direction by Tarik Mikou and Moment Factory Music will also be available starting tomorrow.
The video tells the story of the performance that U2 held last week in the middle of the night in downtown Las Vegas, the same Fremont Street location where Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. shot the iconic video for ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ over 36 years ago. U2 will kick off ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere’ tomorrow, Friday, September 29th.
The 25-date program will see the world’s biggest rock band inaugurating the world’s most cutting-edge new venue. This ambitious project celebrates the acclaimed album ‘Achtung Baby’ and its ZOO TV Tour, which in 1991 broke boundaries and solidified the band’s reputation as artists who constantly pushed the limits of live performances, with groundbreaking shows embracing the latest technologies and innovations. ‘ATOMIC CITY’ will be available as a digital single in standard audio, HD audio, and also in Spatial/Atmos; and in limited edition 7″ vinyl and limited edition CD.
